Come Role Play with us!

Please note: You need to read our code of honor before beginning to role play with us. This will give you an understanding of the rules of the room, and how to properly set up your character. Also, you should make yourself familiar with the Staff within the room, so that you can ask the right people for help if you need it! In order to begin gaming with us at Gotham you must have an account (different from your account with us here on the Gotham and Beyond website or wiki), at World Broadcasting System.  The World Broadcasting System is the service that provides a chat/role play room for Gotham and Beyond.  Gotham and Beyond the chat/role play room, and the website aren't owned by the owner of World Broadcasting System. The World Broadcasting System is a friendly, open role-playing chat community, who's script is based on the original Ethereal Realms roleplay/chatroom script, where you can relax and make friends as well as find the best role-playing partners on the net.  World Broadcasting System offers a wide variety of rooms (including Gotham and Beyond!) with settings to fire the imagination and bring people together. To help make this a fair and pleasant chat environment, please leave any and all baggage and conflicts from other chat systems behind you. Remember: You're only limited by your imagination. In addition to creating an account with WBS, Gotham is an exclusive room. In order to gain entrance to the room, you will need to submit a request for an invite. Don't worry, its not a difficult process.. and we have no intention of limiting people from getting into the room, without good reason. If you can follow the rules, and help us make Gotham a really nice, and safe place to role play, then we really want you playing in our room! Before registering at World Broadcasting System, you need to be sure you agree to the terms outlined in the Acceptable Use Policy for World Broadcasting System.  Failure to read the Acceptable Use Policy does not exclude you from the policy, restrictions, and requirements (legal or otherwise) outline in the Acceptable Use Policy. To register a new account at World Broadcasting System, you need to visit the User Registration form to submit a few details to get started. After you have registered, and confirmed your registration by verifying your new user account, you can begin to play in the Gotham and Beyond room by logging into World Broadcasting System. It will work under a myriad of browsers even some which do not support images! Framed Mode is the second generation of chat interfaces. This one features a posting frame and viewing frame, allowing you to type up a post and check for new posts manually from time to time. If this is your first character, just click the add button to move on to adding details for your character. Clicking the Clone button will add the tag information you entered for the last puppet you created. That should be it - you should see a message at the top of the screen that the puppet was created. If that handle is already in use or the name is too short, you will see a message to that effect and can try doing it again using a different name. There is no limit to the number of characters you can enter! ADDING DETAILS From the Puppet Manager, choose the character you wish to customize and click on "Details." Image Link: Enter the URL for the character's picture here. Note: Each room has its own picture size limits. If your picture is too big in any way, you will see an IMAGE link above the character's name when you post in the room. The system will add the Width, height, and size. It will not add an incorrect link! Homepage: Enter the character's homepage URL here. Gummy Image: Select a gummy from the drop-down box. Default: Click this box if you want this character to be the one automatically used when entering any room on the site. You can always change to another character once you are in the room. Display Contact Info: Click this info to show any optional contact info you entered in the User Info section. View Changes in Realm: Check this box to test your character's look and feel in the chatroom as a private message. This is a good way to fine-tune a setup without showering the room with small, repetitious changes. Tagline: Enter the HTML that makes your tag individual. To change the color, size or placement of your name, use the normal html and NAME. Submit - Sets your info in place. Reset - This returns the setup to the last setup entered with the Submit button. MACROS There are two important MACROS that you can express your dominance over, by deciding how it will show up in a room with appropriate placement of the MACROS in your titlebox.  The two MACROS you can use are NAME and DATETIME. The DATETIME tag works the same was the NAME macros works in the title field of your Puppet Configuration panel. You can alter its appearance as you like with appropriate HTML or CSS attributes. MARCO PLACEMENT You can place the NAME MACRO anywhere in your title box and the character name will appear there.  This is useful if you want to center the name with HTML, or you have a tag you want to appear before the character name.  If you do not use the MACRO, the name will appear in its default position in your post.  This default is next to the gummy, and justified to the right of it. Using the DATETIME MACRO the same way as the NAME MACRO will achieve the same result.  The default for the DATETIME is decided upon in the room design; so this can vary from room to room. HIDING DATE/TIME Enter the following code in your title box: <div style="display: none;">DATETIME</div> This will hide the date and time stamp that appears in your posts in room.  We do not recommend this feature, as it can be difficult if you are involved in a situation where you need date and time of a post you made in the room (if you are being harassed, and showing your innocence, having a date time stamp on your posts helps with this). HIDING NAME Enter the following code in your title box: <div style="display: none;">NAME</div> This will hide your character's name in room in your posts.  This will not hide your name in the Who's On.  This feature is useful if you are unable to create a character name of your choice, and you must put a variation on the name in order to get the handle; if you use this MACRO code to hide your name, you can then display the proper character name of your choice in room without the variation.  This is helpful when you play a canon character, for instance like Spiderman.  The Spiderman is already taken on WBS, and cannot be duplicated.  So instead of forgetting your character ideas and storyline, create the handle variation; Spider.  Put the code for the NAME MACRO to hide the handle name in your title box, and then format the rest of the information in your title box to show Spiderman as the handle.  You will still show up as Spider in the Who's On list, but people will see your character name as Spiderman. HIDING BOTH NAME & DATE/TIME Enter the following code in your title box:  <div style="display: none;">DATETIME NAME</div> Cloning/Copying Characters This feature is useful if you have a tag or title that you like to use for another character. In the Puppet Manager enter a new Character name that you would like to make, just like you would when you create a new character.  DO NOT create the character yet!  Click on the character you want to copy the tag or title from, in your character list in the same screen.  Click on the box next to "Clone Which Puppet".  NOW, click Insert to create the new character. When you edit your cloned character you will notice everything from your other character (tagline and title) have been transferred over.  However, image and gummy selection was not copied; you will need to add this yourself. Puppet Groups This can be found in your puppet manager, at the bottom of the screen; Puppet Groups This section is useful if you want to group types of characters together.  I personally use this to group my DC characters apart from my Marvel characters, and Top Cow characters, as well as the other characters I have that aren't associated with either publisher/universe. Name your new group, and click on insert. After that group is created, click on that group name and begin to move your characters into that group by highlighting the character name, and then pressing the >> button to move it over to the group.  To remove a character from a group, highlight the character in the group, and press the << button.  Your characters will then be grouped in your character list while in a room. Puppet Activity This can be found in your puppet manager, at the bottom of the screen; Puppet Activity. This feature will allow you to suspend a character, without deleting it. Activity determines if a puppet is currently being used or not. One which is active will appear on all of your lists and can be played within a realm, while inactive handles will remain dormant until called upon. Please note that inactive puppets can and will expire if not used for an extended period of time. So if a handle you have suspended months back is no longer listed, this probably means the system cleared it for use by the general population. To deactivate a active character, click on the name in the active list, and then click on Suspend. To activate a deactivated character, click on the name in the deactivated list, and then click Active. Importing/Exporting Character handles and information This can be found in your puppet manager, at the bottom of the screen; Export and Import Export allows you to make a backup of all your puppets to prevent loss in case of failure on the servers. This feature can also be used to transfer the handles from one user to another or even to another site if they support such a feature (any site running the ER script will usually be able to handle this feature) by importing the code. Exporting To export, simply copy the text in the window and paste it into a notepad document. Save it as a plain text file and keep it in a secure location! Importing To import, simply copy the text you grabbed previously from the export page and copy it into here. The system will then handle the rest!  Any newly created handles will appear in your character list.
